Gary Gould combines his passions for music, teaching and public speaking to offer a variety of seminars for music students that entertain and educate.
Each clinic can be tailored to appeal to different audiences, including middle schools, high schools, universities, community bands, music camps, and other organizations that would benefit from this kind of musical experience.

THE SHAPES OF MUSIC - A Visual Exploration
is a fascinating approach to "seeing" the intervalic relationships of music in a whole new way... by using geometric shapes.
This lecture introduces a new way of practicing that will instantly lead to better sightreading, jumpstart jazz improvisation, and allow a deeper understanding of the most commonly used sounds of music.
It's ideal for demystifying essential theoretical concepts including the chromatic and whole tone scales, diminished and augmented triads, tritones and much more, in an easy-to-understand talk designed to ignite students to practice deeper and explore further than ever before. This lecture introduces the Circle (it's one of the Shapes of Music) and offers SIX unique perspectives by which to explore it.
It's a fast-paced, easy-to-understand seminar that will introduce essential practice concepts for encouraging exploration, building musicianship and approaching the subject of music theory in an innovative and fun new way!

PLAY WITH YOUR EARS
"Play With Your Ears!"(featuring the incredibly awesomeTHEREMIN) is an interactive presentation that gives students the opportunity to play this historical and hysterical instrument!
Theremin facts: It was invented in 1919, it's the world's first electronic instrument, you play it without ever touching it, and it's the greatest ear training device on the planet!
This lighthearted presentation is all about fun with music!
It begins with a theremin demonstration followed by simple instructions on how to play. From there the students get to try their hand at this mysterious instrument (with timed play-along tracks) and that's when the real fun begins!
There are no frets, buttons or valves, so the only way to play a song is to use your EARS. It's a memorable musical experience for all ages!
The popularity of klezmer music has exploded in the last 20 years, and Gary Gould is one of Southern California's premiere klezmer musicians.
In this concert presentation you'll hear exciting and quirky melodies, you'll learn about the unique scales that make klezmer music sound so exotic, plus you'll be introduced to some of the ornaments klezmer musicians use to bring out the "soul" of the music.
This presentation combines music performance with history, humor, clapping and some of the wackiest sounds a clarinet can make, all wrapped up in a fun introduction to the Eastern European folk music we call... KLEZMER!

World of Winds
Featuring great songs played on a variety of instruments, Gary Gould's "World of Winds"variety show offers students the opportunity to see and hear a grownup demonstrating the joy that comes from a lifetime of playing music!
It's a lighthearted show with upbeat narration and so many instruments, including many sizes of saxophones, clarinets and flutes, plus Irish penny whistles and the exotic bansuri from India. The amazingly awesome theremin is also included.
Musical styles include jazz, pop, latin, novelty, swing, ragtime, klezmer, Irish, disco, ballads and songs of America.
This concert is a positive musical experience with a lot of variety. It includes famous melodies, entertaining facts, and musicianship that is sure to dazzle!

Gary Gould was a 2-time winner of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in high school, winner of the Most Outstanding Jazz Musician Award at Cal State Fullerton, and winner the K-TWV "The Wave" Saxophone Contest for all of Southern California.
He has performed on cruise ships in the Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska, and toured to Japan, England, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France, and the tiny resort island of Canouan in the Grenadines.
Gary Gould is currently an instructor at the Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana, the Concert Master and soloist with the Laguna Concert Band, Director of The Swing Set Jazz Ensemble, and leads his own musical groups for special events. He continues to write and produce new educational 1-man shows for schools and private audiences.
